India's Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, S. Krishnan, said on the 2nd that the government is investigating the massive data breach at Tata Electronics. This marks the first time the Indian government has commented on the incident.
Krishnan said, "We are investigating." According to him, the incident has been reported to the Computer Emergency Response Team, the agency responsible for India's cybersecurity.
Tata Electronics is a component supplier for Apple and one of the main contract manufacturers of Apple phones in India. It is reported that a gang recently stole a large amount of undisclosed confidential data from Tata Electronics and uploaded it to the dark web, including information on the supply chain of the yet-to-be-released iPhone 18 Pro components and test materials for the model.
The document reveals that at least six documents have detailed the exclusive suppliers for each component of the iPhone 18 Pro, covering core accessories such as the mainboard chip, battery component, and camera module. It is disclosed that multiple photos within a folder labeled "iPhone 18 Pro" show that a factory is conducting a drop test on a gray phone, with the date set for early 2026; several files also bear "confidential" watermarks and internal code names.
Apple is expected to launch several new models in September this year. The timing of this data leak incident is particularly troublesome for Apple. Sources close to the matter have revealed that Apple classifies such information as a trade secret, and has never disclosed the specific details of each component in its public list of suppliers before. And this time, the supply chain information has been fully exposed.
Currently, Apple has launched an investigation into this data breach incident; Tata is identifying internal security vulnerabilities and has hired an international consulting firm to conduct a legal audit.
# Apple Indian Contract Factory Data Breach
Note: A hacker group attacked the core manufacturing facility of Apple in India, resulting in the leakage of 630GB of confidential data, including 200,000 documents such as iPhone 18 Pro designs and supply chain lists, containing core information for the new model. Apple and Tata simultaneously conducted security vulnerability checks and upgraded control measures. The launch schedule and supply chain layout of the new model have been impacted.
